Estimates & Authorization to Repair

All repair estimates are provided in good faith based on our initial inspection. Estimates are not guaranteed final prices and may vary, but by no more than 10% without your authorization (verbal or written). If additional work is discovered during the repair process, we will contact you for approval before that work is started whenever the cost is expected to exceed the estimate by more than 10%.

You may provide verbal or written authorization for the repair work listed on the estimate to be performed, along with the necessary materials, parts, and labor. In authorizing the work, you grant the shop and its employees permission to operate the vehicle on public streets, highways, or elsewhere for the purposes of testing, inspection, and diagnosis. You confirm that you are the vehicle owner or are authorized to approve repairs on the owner's behalf.

If you would like pictures or video of the worn or damaged parts, please request this in advance of the work being completed. They will be provided prior to your authorization.

Diagnostic & Teardown Fees

Under Iowa Code § 537B.6, we must notify you that you may be charged for inspection, disassembly, and reassembly. Unless your estimate explicitly states otherwise, the following minimum fees apply if you decline to proceed with the recommended repairs:

  • Diagnostic / inspection fee: $125.00
  • Disassembly / reassembly fee: $250.00
  • Total minimum charged if repairs are declined: $375.00

You understand and agree that the diagnostic fee may be charged once the vehicle has been inspected, whether or not you choose to authorize the final repairs, unless your estimate states otherwise.

Declining Service After Authorization

If you decline services after authorizing them, you are responsible for all parts and labor already expended, as well as any costs incurred to remove the vehicle from the shop. We will not be responsible for ensuring the vehicle is road worthy and will provide no warranty when service is declined prior to completion of the work originally estimated.

Customer-Supplied Parts

The shop expressly disclaims all warranties, either express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, on any parts provided by the customer. The shop provides no warranty on labor or performance for client-provided components. The customer assumes all liability for vehicle damage or part failure resulting from customer-supplied parts. If a customer-supplied part fails, the customer is fully responsible for all subsequent teardown, diagnostic, and re-repair labor costs.

Aftermarket Parts Disclosure

We use quality parts appropriate for each repair. If you have a preference for OEM, aftermarket, or customer-supplied parts, let us know before work begins.

As required by Iowa Code § 537B.4: if an estimate or invoice has been prepared based on the use of aftermarket crash parts supplied by a source other than the manufacturer of your motor vehicle, this is clearly described on the front of that estimate or invoice. Any warranties applicable to those replacement parts are provided by the manufacturer or distributor of the parts rather than by the manufacturer of your vehicle.

Payment Terms

Payment due upon completion. Full payment for all parts, labor, diagnostics, and shop fees is due immediately upon completion of repairs and prior to release of the vehicle.

No payment arrangements or financing. We are a small, one-owner hometown vehicle maintenance shop, not a financial institution — we'll gladly point you to our neighboring financial institution for financing. The shop does not offer payment arrangements, payment plans, credit terms, or delayed billing under any circumstances. Vehicles will not be released, and keys will not be handed over, until the invoice total is paid in full. Customers are responsible for securing their own financing or funds prior to scheduling vehicle pickup.

Accepted forms of payment. Cash, check, major credit card, Venmo, or Cash App. Company and personal checks are accepted, but parts will not be ordered and work will not begin for a period of 10 days to allow the check to clear the financial institution.

Deposits on special orders. For larger part orders, custom components, or repairs exceeding $2,500.00, the shop may require an upfront, non-refundable deposit equal to 70% of the estimated part cost before any parts are ordered or work commences.

Returned payments and collection costs. A fee of $50.00 will be charged for any returned or insufficient funds (NSF) check. In the event of a reversed payment, bounced check, or disputed credit card chargeback, the customer agrees to pay all collection costs, court fees, and reasonable attorney fees incurred by the shop to recover the debt.

Possessory Artisan's Lien

An express possessory artisan's lien is acknowledged on the vehicle pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 577 to secure the unpaid balance of any authorized repairs, diagnostics, or storage fees. The shop reserves the right to retain lawful possession of the vehicle until all undisputed, authorized amounts are paid in full. In the event of a payment reversal, bounced check, or stopped credit card transaction, the shop reserves the right to reassert its lien rights to the extent permitted by state law.

Vehicle Pickup & Storage Fees

Our parking lot is never large enough, so it is important that repairs are paid for in full and vehicles are picked up within 24 hours of receiving notice that the work is complete.

Vehicles left on the premises more than 72 hours after the date of completion will begin to accrue a commercial parking and storage fee of $75.00 per day, added to the invoice.

Limited Shop Warranty

The shop provides a limited warranty of three months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first, on the specific mechanical parts and installation labor listed on your invoice. As noted above, this limited warranty strictly excludes any defects, subsequent failures, or diagnostic teardown labor related to customer-supplied parts.

Limitation of Liability & Personal Property

While your vehicle is in our care we maintain reasonable safeguards, but our liability is limited to the scope of the repair services performed.

Vehicle storage. When your vehicle is not being worked on, it is kept locked in the parking lot. The shop is not responsible for any loss or damage to the vehicle caused by fire, theft, vandalism, weather events, or any other cause beyond the shop's operational control. We are also not liable for pre-existing conditions, normal wear and tear, or issues unrelated to the services provided.

Articles left in the vehicle. The shop is not liable for loss or damage to personal articles, tools, electronics, or valuables left in the vehicle. Please remove all valuables before leaving your vehicle with us.

Completed Work & Billing Finality

By making final payment, you acknowledge that the repairs explicitly listed on the invoice have been completed to your satisfaction. Pursuant to Iowa Code § 537B.3, the final price charged reflects the authorized estimate amount and does not exceed prior oral or written cost allowances by more than 10%.
